Abuela's Modern Lullaby
Abuela always sang
A tune sulfuric sweet
of Jaguar Death
and the dance
of the Inferno
when I went to bed
Every night,
in the City of Angels.
Jaguar man,
You dance all night
In lights
Of neon
With not-quite maidens in
Tight red dresses,
Leather straps hitched,
Up their thighs.
Tastes of corn distilled
From god in Kentucky,
First name basis, Jack,
Driving you madder
Wilder,
Into the dark, dark city,
Smears of puta’s rojo lipstick,
warrior’s paint across your face,
down that broad chest.
Late for the ceremony,
raising another follower’s heart up,
All in the name of fun,
in the inferno.
Jaguar man,
